Ridgeway School Song

Over east, over west, (opponent) High and all the rest
Ridgeway High School goes rolling along,
We get in and we win, from the monent we begin
Ridgeway High School goes rolling along.

We will fight fight, fight for the dear old black and white
Fighting as never before
And where e'er you go, you will always know
Ridgeway High School goes rolling along!
    (Ridgeway)When life gives you
    lemons you make lemonade.  It
    was what Principal Jerry Brown
told the students when they first
    heard the news that Ridgeway
    School would be closing.

    The theme was carried out
through the final days of the
    school with the release of
    several hundred balloons in the
    playground area in Ridgeway.

    The tears were plentiful from
    parents, teachers, past
    students, and even Mr. Brown.

    The students will certainly
    survive being aborsbed into the
    schools in Cresco and Decorah,
but they certainly were sad and
will be affected by the closing of
    their school.

When the school bells ring next
fall for the first time since the
19th Century there will be no
    classes in Ridgeway.

It remains uncertain at this time
    what will happen with the
    building, which certainly could
    be used for many things.

    (About the photos)  The photos
    on the
left are form the last day at
    Ridgeway school.

    Hundreds of balloons were
    stored in the Principal's office
    waiting for the monent when
they would be released into the
    sky.

In the next photo you see Mr.
    Brown passing out the lemon
    colored balloons to students.

    Many gathered....most with long
    faces...and some with tears!

    The hand amongst the balloons
with the lemon drops is that of
Mr. Brown as he passed out the
    lemon drops which he called
    "hardened lemonade".

To the right a couple of balloons
as they were realesed into the
    sky.

    Above you can watch the
    balloons on the YouTube Video
as they rise into the sky and
    headed west  just before noon
on a clear day with temps
    around 80.

The final chapter in the history
    of Ridgeway Schools.
