| Warriors 20 Hawks 17 The battle of the undefeated took place at West Union when the South Winneshiek Warriors traveled a little bit south for a battle with perennial power The North Fayette Hawks for supremacy in Class 2A District 4. North Fayette had not lost a district game in 2 years and were the defending district champions. The Warriors were a team on the rise coming in 5-0 overall and 3-0 in district play after managing only one win a year ago. By utilizing a strong ground game led by Colton Hageman who rushed for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns and strong defense led by Nick Schmelzer and Hageman the Warriors prevailed with a 20-17 victory over the Hawks. The Warriors led the game at the half 20-14 when both teams displayed strong offensive attacks. Jake Greco who continues to put up unreal rushing numbers for North Fayette rushed for 211 yards on 37 carries. Greco leads the state with 1249 rushing yards this season, while Hageman also already has rushed for over a 1000 yards with 1096 yards. The Warriors are now 6-0 overall, while North Fayette fell to 4-2 for the season. South Winneshiek is ranked #9 in the latest 2A AP Poll. |
