Turkey Valley 44  North Linn 26

It was closer than many expected, but the Turkey Valley Trojans
did manage to come away with a 44-26 victory on the road at
North Linn to up its record to 3-0 in district play.

Trojans trailed 14-8 late into the first half when they scored to tie
the game with :56 left in the half and executed an on-side kick to
perfection (although according to Coach Scott it was really more
luck than skill).

After recovering the ball on the kick the Trojans marched down
the field using the time-outs and getting out of bounds to stop the
clock in a text book manner and scored another TD just before
the end of the half to go in with a 22-14 lead.

The Trojans scored 36 unanswered points and built the lead to
44-14 before North Linn added a pair of late touchdowns for the
final score.

Jordan Mitchell rushed for 139 yards, while Jordan Schmitt ran for
85 yards and 3 touchdowns and also threw for another TD.

Brian Schmitt led the defense with 8 tackles and John Hageman
and Jordan Schmitt has 6 a piece.

Turkey Valley remains undefeated atop the district with Wapsie
Valley and Starmont and play Bellevue (2-1) next week for
homecoming.

Comments from
Coach Mark Scott

Offensively
-We ran the ball very
effectively after a shaky start. Jordan
Mitchell, AJ Martin, Jordan Schmitt and
Brian Schmitt ran the ball well behind
the good blocking of our front seven.
North Linn came out in a different
defense then we had practiced against
all week, which caused some confusion
up front. But we were able to get ever
one on the same page by the end of
the second quarter and executed well.
Marshall Rosenbaum and Ben Novotny
both had big catches to help turn the
momentum back our way. We did
uncharacteristically have five turn
overs.

Defensively- Some of our tackling in
the open needed to be better. We had
a couple of penalties that helped them
keep drives alive early in the game.

Special Teams- Jordan Mitchell had
five punt returns for 46 yards. AJ
Martin punted the ball very well. Nic
Shuafenbuel kicked off and had a
good day of kicking. Two muffed kick
off that we recovered help to turn the
tide in our favor. Nic Shuafenbuel and
Dalton Hackman recovered those.

Comments- We played very well at
times but at other times we did not. We
will have to be more consistent in the
weeks to come to have the success we
hope for. Next week we play Bellevue
for Homecoming at Jackson Junction.
Bellevue is a team in the hunt for the
playoffs just as we are we have
identical records. It looks to be great
high school football game.

Great Story about an Iowa Boy now
the Head Coach of the #16 Team in
the Nation getting ready to play #2
LSU..(Click Below)

I was there when he played in HS
and College and knew him and his
family well and spent many
Saturdays and Sundays with IWC
during the Mumme years.  It was
exciting football, but not any more
exciting than watching Turkey
Valley this season.  Good Story and
well worth reading...also very
accurate about the IWC years.
When Coach Mumme took over
Iowa Wesleyan he had 3 returning
players; a kicker, a punter and a
linebacker.  The team was 0-10 the
year before and hardly scored any
points and to make it even more
challenging, IWC had (has) one of
the worst facilities of any college
playing football at any level.  In the
first year, Mumme's team broke
virtually every single season IWC
offensive record, while going 7-5.
QB Dustin Dewald not only
re-wrote the IWC record book but
at one time held 27 college football
passing records and still holds
many today.

Under the circumstances, It was
truly one of the most remarkable
turn arounds in college football
history.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va.

Every time Dana Holgorsen was
taken out of the game, he came off
the field enraged.
