Turkey Valley 20  Starmont 12

The Turkey Valley Trojans did what they had to do when they had
to do it.  The highlights were plentiful in the 20-12 win over
previously undefeated Starmont.

Dave Balik made a key defensive play with an interception on a
fourth down play that stopped a Starmont drive with a little over
5:30 left to play and the Trojans offense ate up the clock the rest
of the way with a key play being a Jordan Mitchell first down run
on a 3-14 play from deep in Trojan territory.  Mitchell appeared
stopped twice short of the first down but would not be denied with
second and third effort to gain the key first down.

The Trojans offensive line pushed Starmont around the rest of
the way to help Turkey Valley run out the clock.

Early in the final quarter, a long AJ Martin punt pinned Starmont
back deep in their own territory.

Ben Novotny also picked up a key interception in the third period
to stop a drive.  Before the Novotny interception it appeared that
Starmont receivers could get open almost anytime they wanted to
and their only problem was holding onto the ball.

Jordan Mitchell ran for 124 yards, while Brian Schmitt rushed for
64.  Dave Balik and John Hageman led the team with 9 tackles
each, whil Nic Schaufenbuel had 7 and Marshal Rosenbaum 6.

The win put the Trojans back in the hunt for the district
championship with Wapsie Valley the only undefeated district
team left coming up next week.

Turkey Valley, Starmont, and Bellevue all have one loss with the
four top teams squaring off next Friday.

Comments from
Coach Mark Scott

Offensively-
We ran the ball
effectively with 263 yards for the game.
Brian Schmitt did a good job of picking
up tough fullback yardage. Jordan
Mitchell ran the hard all night
Jordan Schmitt and Ben Novotny had
nice runs on crucial downs to keep
scoring drives alive. The offensive line
did a good job of blocking against
some large d-line men.

Defensively- We played much better
on defense against a very good run
oriented team. Ben Novotny and Dave
Balik had interceptions in the second
half to stop Starmont drives. A defense
stand right before half and mid way
through the fourth quarter helped get
the win for the Trojans.

Special Teams- AJ Martin did a nice
job of punting the ball to limit the
returns for Starmont. Nic Schaufenbuel
kicked the ball to allow our kick team to
cover the return.

Comments- We played very well at
times. Next week we play undefeated
Wapsie Valley at Wapsie. It looks to be
great high school football game.
